Making the Right Decision When Buying a Large Screen HDTV

Posted by happytown on 17th March 2010

Many of us are contemplating the purchase of a High Definition Television this winter. One of the main reasons to buy now is the upcoming Super bowl football game. We like having friends and family over to watch the game, and what could be nicer than to see it on a new large screen TV. As long as we are upgrading, why not get High Definition as well. But what to buy? With today’s fast technology changes, how can we make a wise investment? Some things to consider would be screen size, where will it go in the house, and will you buy a particular brand to show off -or will cost be a factor in your decision? What about the different types, Plasma or LCD? Who will deliver it, and who will install it correctly?

First, let’s take time to measure where the new TV will go. I had a friend plan on a very large screen size to fit inside an enclosed credenza. When we examined the TV he wanted before purchasing it, we discovered that it needed a minimum of 4″ around the sides and from the wall for proper ventilation. He had to be satisfied with a smaller TV. Positioning the TV on the wall gives you a much greater option for space. Be aware of sunlight from windows blinding your view. Keep in mind the safety of the TV. Large screen TV’s can become a big target for hands, feet and flying objects. Most warranties do not cover abuse.

Brand decisions can be extremely costly. However, with sales and online price comparisons, you can save more from a discount TV store. If you buy a new TV, you will still get the full warranty and accessories, just as if you purchased it from your local department store.

LCD seems to gain popularity over a Plasma TV and you won’t have the recharging worry in the future. Both have a great picture, the higher 1080p resolution being the most expensive. The 720p and 1080i models are also very acceptable, providing they have a good contrast ratio. Most TV’s sold today come with a manufactures limited warranty for one year. You can buy additional warranty policies that cover beyond the original manufacturers warranty even if you have purchased from a discount TV store.

You can bring it home yourself, but keep in mind that most manufactures recommend that you keep the TV upright during delivery. You will need the right vehicle to accommodate this. If you are mechanically inclined, you can install the required brackets for a wall installation, but I would recommend having a friend help you lift or move the TV in order to do it safely.

You now have a pretty good picture of what to expect when buying and installing a large screen HDTV. Proper planning for the location, screen size, cost, type of screen, and the installation, will save you in the long run. Shop around, go online, check the discount TV stores and get some comparison pricing for your best buy. You can save time and money by making the right decision.

Refurbished HDTV – What HDTV Means in Plain English

Posted by happytown on 14th March 2010

A refurbished HDTV is similar to a brand new HDTV – the HDTV part. I will discuss what refurbished really means (you may be pleasantly surprised…), buy right now you want to know what HDTV stands for, right? Here it is: HDTV stand for High Definition Television; a TV that has a resolution approximately twice that of conventional televisions in both horizontal and vertical dimensions, providing impressive picture quality. The picture quality of HDTVs is much better because compared to 525 lines of resolution in NTSCs (National Television Systems Committee) and some SDTVs (standard definition television), it uses 720 or 1080 lines of resolution.

The widescreen aspect ratio of HDTVs is 16:9. Aspect ratio is the ratio of width to height of the TV screen. NTSCs and some SDTVs use a traditional squarish ratio of 4:3; while 16:9 is the ratio of widescreen formats for all High Definition Televisions (HDTVs) and some SDTVs. Its ability to accept and display such high resolution pictures results in clear and vivid images. HDTVs also have remarkable surround sound.

I’ve explained HDTV in plain English detail, now I’ll give you a quick rundown of refurbished HDTVs. Buying refurbished HDTVs is becoming quite the rage these days. Scores of people have come to discover that refurbished is not “used” and it’s not some kind of thing sold on e-bay or Craigslist. Refurbished HDTVs are inspected and tested by factory technicians and are factory certified that they work like new. They also come with manufacturers’ in-home warranties, so in essence they are guaranteed to work. Now, here’s the good part: Refurbished HDTVs can be bought for incredible savings. Because they legally can’t be sold as brand new, they are often marked down 30% – 70% and they’re quality TVs! I’m talking about brand names: Samsung, Sony…

If you find a reliable place to buy a refurbished HDTV on the internet, it can definitely be bought safely online. Believe it or not, buying refurbished HDTVs has been the rich man’s secret… until now.

The 523 1080p Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV Is Simply An Amazing Set

Posted by happytown on 13th March 2010

The 52″ 1080p Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV is simply an amazing set. This is one of the best 52″ LCD HDTVs out there. This set is loved by many and you can check all over the internet and you’ll see that I’m not fibbing. Sony just keeps making the Bravia better and better with each new model release. If you’re looking for a 52″ LCD HDTV and this one is in your budget, this may be the best one out there.

First, let’s talk about how the KDL-52W3000 looks aesthetically. The brush metal matte frame is a classic look that actually absorbs light and does not reflect like the 46V3000 if you found the piano black to be distracting. The stand does not pivot like the 46V2500 does, but that’s only one slight negative thing compared to what this baby can do.

Let’s talk about the picture, the part that everyone wants to know about. Let me say that the picture quality of the Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV is simply amazing in HD. The picture is vivid and the Live Color Creation “gimmick” is no gimmick. Colors are rich, vivid, and life like to the point that it’s almost 3D, especially when watching animated films like Ratatouille or Cars. The viewing angle is excellent and the screen has no glares and has no problem playing in a sunlit room.

I recommend you use HDMI 1.3 Category 2 cables so that the TV can display colors better. Standard definition is fine and will not terrify you like most LCD HDTVs out there. Watching DVD is almost HD like when paired with the up-converting Oppo DVD player. The refresh rate is 60hz but there is little to no difference when compared side by side with the 120hz XBR4. Motion blurring is usually normal in LCD TVs, but the Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 does a good job at keeping it to a minimum. If you do catch any blurring, try turning off Noise Reduction to eliminate it.

The Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000’s audio quality is above average especially if you customize the sound yourself, turn on the S-Force Front Surround, and raise the voice boost. The stock TV speakers are not going to make you feel like you’re in a movie theater, but it’s good enough if you’re not planning to get a home theater although you should. The Sony DAV-HDX500/i BRAVIA Home Theater System is a good one.

Get the 52″ Sony Bravia KDL-52W3000 LCD HDTV if the XBR4 is too expensive. This set is the next best thing if it falls within your budget. Remember to buy HDMI 1.3 cables to get the best colors possible because this TV supports it. Have fun and don’t forget to look away from the TV and get up to walk around once in a while because this TV will suck you into the world that you’re watching like you’ve been looking through a window the whole time.

Flat Screen HD TV – Is it Worth the Expense?

Posted by happytown on 11th March 2010

Consumers are drawn to the hype behind flat screen HD TV models, but are they worth the expense? Sure they offer a unique style and great pictures and audio but do you really get what you pay for? As with any new product on the market that is in high demand the cost is going to be very overpriced until the hype wears of some. You will find flat screen HD TV models in CRT, plasma, projection, and flat panel LCD models.

The size of the flat screen HD TV picture area is quite impressive and a main selling point. They range in size form 20″ to 60″ so you can select the one that meets your viewing needs as well as fits in the space you have available for it. While a flat screen HD TV offers you plenty of viewing features you will have to come up with some hard cash to enjoy one. They range in price from $1,500 to $10,000. A very common model sold is the Sony KE-42M1 with a WEGA Engine System and a 60″ flat screen. It retails for approximately $1,799.

If you find those prices to be just too much don’t get discouraged. Forecasters predict the cost of a flat screen HD TV will drop by ½ in the next couple of years due to new models being introduced and the market being saturated with various flat screen HD TV options. Even computer manufacturer giants Dell and Hewlett Packard are climbing on board. They plan to offer cheap flat screen HD TV models that still offer plenty of quality.

If you really want a flat screen HD TV right now then you might consider the affordable 26″ Toshiba Theater Wide HD 26HL84 TV. This particular model offers the Toshiba flat panel and the Pixel Pure Digital Video system. It also has built in speakers and a tuner. There are plenty of other great flat screen HD TV models to choose from as well from a variety of manufacturers.

Some Of The Reasons True Sports Fans Are Flipping Over HDTV

Posted by happytown on 9th March 2010

HDTV is a must have for any sports fan. Having this new technology is just like being at the game in which you are watching and it has made sports history. ESPN has been a leader in making HDTV possible for the sports they broadcast. March 30, 2003 saw to the very first broadcast of a Major League Baseball game to the Anaheim Angels and the Texas Rangers in HDTV. ESPN although to be the leader in worldwide sports, has changed its network to be the world wide company to broadcast in the medium as well.

Picture quality and the way the resolution appears is one reason why they are changing to High Density TV. It makes you feel as if you were on the court or field of which you are seeing. You can view every area of the game as viewed on this new source; you will think that you are really there. With progressive image technology, the whole screen is filled up with picture so it will show you as if you are really there. The picture seen on a TV equipped with the new technology is five times greater than a regular TV would show you. Colors are high and text is very legible. There is no comparison with an HDTV to a regular TV

The sound quality is almost more advanced than the picture is. A lot of programs have surround sound so you can enjoy hearing everything about the game. Every game you watch will give you IMAX quality near perfection. Hear the clapping of the basketball shoes as the players run down the court, hear the swish of the ball as it passes through the net of the basketball hoop. The loudness of the fans will make you start believing that you are at the game.

What do you think the next reason is that fans are changing to the high quality of HDTV? Answer, they want the very best of sports coverage that the TV and ESPN have to offer them. When did my friend get his High Density TV? As soon as “Gears of War” came out and of course the Super Bowl. Digital television service was a go in 1998. As of 2005, digital TV sets were outselling the old TV by millions. The Consumer Electronics Associates said that in 2006, HDTV outnumbered the number of regular TV’s that were sold in this country. How good the picture is and how good the sound is, according to a sports fan are the two reasons why fans and people across the nation are changing to HDTV. Go out and get yours today and enjoy the TV and wait for football season.

Posted by happytown on 8th March 2010

Samsung of South Korea is the world’s number one brand of consumer electronics. Samsung HD TVs are some of the best available, but with so many technologies, how can you decide on which one is right for you. Most HD TVs fall into one of these three major technology groups, with more types in the works. Each type has an advantage and disadvantage, but all are superb televisions.

DLP – DLP HD TVs work by focusing and reflecting a light source off of a chip with thousands of microscopic-sized mirrors. The advantages of DLP HD TVs include their wide selection of price points and high contrast. The disadvantages are include the rainbow effect, and their expensive replacement bulbs.

LCD – LCD HD TVs work by sandwiching liquid crystal gel between two panes of polarized glass and shining a light source thorough it. The advantages of LCD HD TVs are their vast choice of screen sizes, High Resolution, including 1080p. The disadvantages are they are still somewhat expensive when comparing the same size screen, and the can have a narrow viewing angle.

Plasma – Plasma HD TVs work by exciting gases in thousands of tiny cells. The advantages of Plasma screens include, their wide viewing angle and high contrast. The disadvantages include possibility of screen burn in, and they do not always have the highest resolution at the larger screen sizes.

Choosing which display technology is right for you seems like a daunting task, but rest assured that whichever display type you choose, a Samsung HD TV will look absolutely great in your home and will give you years of enjoyment.

Online HD TV – Part 2

Posted by happytown on 5th March 2010

The internet nowadays is offering its web users a brand new way to view the world, and that is through online HD TV. Some HD TV domains contain recorded and edited TV content in full 1920×1080 pixel resolution of the 1080i standard, an HD TV video mode. This means that the videos can be watched assuming a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9. Most of the HD videos are captured using HD camcorders. All of the viewable video content on these domains are practically available 24/7 from any access point around the world.

On the other hand, other sites offer downloads of these online HD TV content through the peer to peer torrent system, which enable you to save high quality television content to your hard drive or any portable device with a huge base memory. The good thing with this alternative is that the content is usually distributed under a creative commons license. This implies that you are free to share the file may it be copying, distributing or transmitting the file. However, you are bound under some limited conditions like using the files only for non-commercial purposes; hence you cannot make a profit out of it. Moreover, no derivative work can be made out of the original file so you are not allowed to alter or build upon the original file. Overall, online HD TV is the best way to watch your favorite TV shows on the internet. It is really not a surprise why most countries today are starting to make the big switch from analog to high definition digital broadcasting.

Laservue TV Surpasses Plasma and LCD

Posted by happytown on 4th March 2010

Have you checked out the new laser tv that just came out from Mitsubishi? It’s called the Laservue L65-A90. Well, let me tell you, it is simply amazing ! This is a new development in the television industry. TV will never be the same again folks. What is it about this TV that will certainly cause a huge stir in the home entertainment market? Consider this…

1) The Laservue is a digital light processor (DLP) system. That means it eliminates those old bulbs and replaces them with a solid state laser that will last a very long time, and not burn out.

2) A Laservue HDTV uses around 135 watts of electricity. That is about one half off the average current usage for your LCD or Plasma TV’s out there today. Amazing!

3) One of the major highlights of the Mitsubishi Laser tv is reproduction of the color spectrum in excess of 200% better than all other types of HDTV’s. WOW.

4) This tv has the widest and deepest color spectrum of any HDTV ever tested. Deep black, rich reds, crimsons, yellows, greens , and blues are so intense and pleasurable to the eye, they are simply indescribable.

5) Other HDTV television types only produce about 30-35% of the color spectrum which the human eye can actually perceive. The Mitsubishi laservue laser tv is able to deliver about 90% of what your eyes can see. That is unprecedented!

6)These Laser tv’s use only about 100 watts of electricity. This is roughly 3-4 times less than what LCD’s and Plasma TV’s use in comparison. You would surely be saving money in electricity costs. There is so much more I could say that I could go on and on…

I surely hope that you can also experience the astounding attributes of this new HDTV technology. Laser TV is definitely the wave of the future.

The 40" Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 Is An Excellent LCD HDTV

Posted by happytown on 4th March 2010

The 40″ Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 is an awesome LCD HDTV displaying 16:9 1080p at 1920×1080 resolution. Sony has hit the mark with the Bravia KDL-40V2500 especially with the lowered price to compete with other LCD HDTV companies like Samsung, Sharp, Panasonic, and Toshiba. The quality is top notch. The colors and contrast are near perfect and pictures even appear to jump out of this LCD HDTV more than other LCD TV’s when compared side by side.

Watching non HD content is not a problem with the Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500. Even playing regular DVD’s look almost HD with an upscaling or upconverting dvd player like the OPPO DV-980H or Sony’s own DVP-NS77H. I heard you can use the remote from Sony’s dvd player to operate the V2500 series. SD (or standard display) is also good and better than other LCD TV’s and almost to the level of your old CRT tube tv set.

The remote control is not bad, but there have been some dissatisfaction with it from some owners saying that it feals cheap or clunky. You’ll probably end up getting a universal remote anyway if you don’t like the factory TV remote. Any negative thoughts caused by the remote are easily made up for with the excellent and simple menu. Going through the Bravia 40V2500’s settings is a breeze. One great feature of this LCD HDTV that you should enjoy is the ability to label the inputs and skip the unused inputs. This should be included with every TV set.

There have been some reports on fogginess in dark scenes, but not many owners have seen it. Maybe messing around with the display or lowering the brightness will help if you see this in your own TV set. Also, if you see a white line above the screen, just raise the vertical display a little bit to make it disappear. You can also change the display area from “full pixel” to normal and that will get rid of the white line.

The Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV comes with two hdmi inputs. If you’re buying hdmi cables, you don’t need to get the expensive ones. You can buy hdmi cables for under $15-$20 and they work just as good as the ones that cost an arm and a leg. If you plan to buy the warranty for the Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV, you can get it cheaper straight from Sony instead of from Amazon.

Overall, the 40″ Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 LCD HDTV is an awesome television with stunning visuals that will drop jaws like when people went from b&w to color TV’s. The refresh rate is not extremely fast as is expected from an LCD TV, but it shouldn’t be a big impact on the viewing experience. The sound is as good as any LCD HDTV on the market if not better. I didn’t cover the sound much, but it is definitely not weak and may surprise you with how good it sounds. Sony has put together a complete package in the Bravia KDL-40V2500 with great visuals and audio to deliver an immersive experience to the viewer. This LCD HDTV may be the best bang you can get for your buck.
